This is a huge subject so what is offered here merely skims the issues. iPac is an ongoing project. Below you can find some intro info and some very useful links. More stuff will be added as the project develops - so if you find something brilliantly useful please let me know.
In the meantime - for specific queries and stuckness - message me here...
What is IP?
What is intellectual property?
Intellectual property refers to products of the mind. This can include amongst other things:
And you earn from IP. People and organisations cannot take some creative work of yours and use it without your permission. And if they do use it then they need to pay you.
There are also ways to share your work and at the same time protect it from others' use - without people having to pay for it.
Ideas alone cannot be protected. For your idea to be protected it needs to be turned into a creative work. Write it down. Draw it. Make it real.
When you have done this - it is yours. You own it. Copyright is automatic ownership of your intellectual products. Without doing anything. However, can you prove it? So whilst you have ownership...does anyone know? Can you protect your work from others using it in ways you do not agree with? Or selling it themselves and pocketing the rewards?
What types of protection are available?
Creators are protected by four types of IP.
Design Rights (both registered and unregistered)
I am going to add sections for Music, Art & Design, Film & Video, Writers. For now - maybe you can find what you need in the links below? Tis good to learn. And this will help you earn!
